Sterlite Copper, a division of Vedanta Ltd, has teamed up with Green Line Mobility Solutions to introduce liquefied natural gas (LNG) vehicles for transportation. This initiative is a key part of Sterlite Copper’s strategy to reduce carbon emissions and achieve net zero by 2050, aligning with its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals.
The launch of these LNG vehicles was marked at a flag-off event at Vedanta’s Copper Plant in Silvassa. The vehicles will be used for transporting finished goods to northern regions, replacing diesel trucks as part of a reverse logistics model. LNG trucks are gaining recognition for their ability to lower greenhouse gas emissions and reduce particulate matter by 90% compared to diesel trucks.
Sterlite Copper reported a reduction of 2.10 tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions in the fiscal year 2025 due to this transition. As one of the major players in India’s copper industry, contributing 25% of the nation’s copper production, the company is committed to sustainable practices for a cleaner future.
