Sterling Tools Limited, India’s second-largest manufacturer of automotive fasteners, has announced a strategic collaboration with Kunshan GLVAC Yuantong New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (GLVAC YT), a branch of China’s KunshanGuoLi Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. (GLVAC).
Through its subsidiary, Sterling Tech-Mobility Limited, Sterling Tools plans to localize the production of advanced High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) contactors and relays in India, which are essential for managing current flow in electric and hybrid vehicles.
This partnership is expected to generate around Rs. 250 crore in revenue by FY30, with Sterling Tools investing Rs. 40 crore to establish a new manufacturing facility in Bengaluru. The facility will produce HVDC contactors and relays, reducing India’s import dependency and supporting the nation’s Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives.
By producing these components domestically, Sterling Tools aims to offer advanced technology to Indian OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, and other companies, fostering a localized supply chain for electric and hybrid vehicle production.
HVDC contactors and relays are critical for electric and hybrid vehicles, managing high-voltage current between the battery, motor controller, inverter, and other power systems to improve efficiency and safety. These components help control electrical flow and provide isolation, mitigating the risk of electrical faults, fires, or explosions.
Anish Agarwal, Director of Sterling Tools Limited, highlighted the company’s dedication to advancing safety features in electric and hybrid vehicles, emphasizing that the new Bengaluru facility will enhance accessibility and affordability of HVDC components for Indian OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers. Li Qinghua, General Manager of GLVAC YT, noted India’s importance as an EV market and expressed confidence that combining GLVAC’s expertise with Sterling’s manufacturing strength would deliver quality EV components and support India’s green mobility goals.
With its subsidiary, Sterling Tech-Mobility, Sterling Tools aims to expand domestic production of EV components, strengthening the country’s EV supply chain while reducing import reliance. As India’s EV market grows, this partnership positions both companies to seize new opportunities in sustainable transportation.
