Sterling Tools Limited, a prominent automotive fastener manufacturer in India, has ventured into the energy sector through its fully owned subsidiary, Sterling Tech-Mobility Limited. The company has collaborated with China-based Zhejiang Meishuo Electric Technology Co., Ltd. to produce latching relays domestically.
These relays are intended for applications in the energy sector, industrial grids, and other critical areas across India. Latching relays are critical components in reducing power consumption and extending the lifespan of key systems in smart meters, industrial equipment, and consumer appliances. These devices enable the remote connection and disconnection of power at consumer premises through a latch mechanism that significantly lowers energy usage during operation.
Sterling Tools Limited has announced a strategic partnership aimed at generating Rs. 200 crore in revenue by FY30. To kickstart this initiative, the company will invest Rs. 20 crore to set up a manufacturing and assembly facility for latching relays in Bengaluru.
This move is part of Sterling’s effort to reduce dependency on imports and align with India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India missions. By localizing production, the company seeks to provide Indian industries with access to cutting-edge technology while fostering a self-reliant ecosystem for the industrial and white goods sectors.
Anish Agarwal, Director of Sterling Tools Limited, emphasized that this collaboration is a significant step in diversifying the company’s portfolio beyond automotive components. He stated that the initiative reflects Sterling’s commitment to meeting the increasing demand for advanced energy technology in India, which will drive innovation and operational efficiency.
Latching relays function as energy-efficient electromechanical switches, retaining their position without continuous power to the coil. Unlike traditional relays, they consume energy only during state transitions, which reduces operational costs and enhances energy conservation.
Zhejiang Meishuo Electric Technology Co., Ltd., a partner in this initiative, views the Indian market as a hub for industrial and consumer growth. Chairman Xiaohu Huang remarked that this collaboration would bring high-quality solutions tailored to India’s evolving needs while contributing to its sustainability and self-reliance objectives.
Sterling Tools, through its subsidiary Sterling Tech-Mobility Limited, plans to expand the domestic production of electrical components and systems, including relays. This effort aims to strengthen India’s industrial supply chain, reduce reliance on imports, and position the partnership to capitalize on emerging market opportunities, ultimately supporting a more sustainable future.
