Sterling Biotech, a joint venture between Perfect Day and Zydus, has begun building the world’s first manufacturing facility for dairy proteins using precision fermentation technology. Located in Bharuch, Gujarat, the 27-acre facility is slated to become operational by early 2026.
This large-scale production hub is designed to cater to the rising global demand for sustainable food ingredients. With its capacity already significantly pre-booked, the facility includes provisions for future expansion.
TM Narayan, CEO of Perfect Day, described the project as a transformative step for the global food industry. “By utilizing precision fermentation, we are producing high-quality dairy proteins with a reduced environmental impact,” he said. Shayri Roychoudhury, Chief Business Operations Officer at Perfect Day, highlighted the facility’s role in providing planet-friendly dairy proteins tailored to diverse customer needs worldwide.
Perfect Day’s fermentation-based proteins are already widely used in products like ice cream, sports nutrition, and baked goods. The new facility in Bharuch will enhance production capacity and reinforce efforts toward a sustainable and resilient global food system.
