SSEL (Shirdi Sai Electricals Ltd), a prominent manufacturer of transformers, is preparing to commence operations at its new facility in Andhra Pradesh, with an investment of Rs 300 crore. The Chairman and Managing Director, N Visweswara Reddy, announced that the plant, located in the YSR District, aims to produce conductors and is expected to be operational by the third quarter of the fiscal year 2024-25.
The new unit, spanning 8 acres, will have an annual capacity of 300 tonnes and is being established in two phases. Reddy mentioned that trial production is scheduled to start by the end of this month, with phase 1’s peak capacity of 200 tonnes anticipated to be achieved in the first quarter of the next fiscal year. He also highlighted SSEL’s involvement in transmission EPC projects, noting that approximately 50% of the conductors produced will be utilized internally, while the rest will be sold in the open market, catering to both domestic and international demand.
Furthermore, Reddy emphasized the significance of this initiative in enhancing the availability of domestically manufactured conductors at competitive prices, particularly since conductors are primarily imported into the country. Founded in 1994 as a transformer repairing company, SSEL Group has evolved into India’s largest transformer manufacturing company, with a workforce of around 5,000 employees.
The group recorded a revenue of Rs 2,680 crore in FY 2022-23 and is targeting a revenue of approximately Rs 5,000 crore in the current fiscal year.
