Spiro, Africa’s largest electric mobility company, has announced the appointment of Anant Badjatya as Group Chief Executive Officer, reinforcing the company’s leadership team as it enters a new phase of growth and regional expansion. Mr Badjatya brings more than two decades of experience in building and scaling businesses across the mobility, energy and industrial sectors in India, the Middle East and Africa. His appointment follows a significant period of momentum for Spiro, including the completion of a US$215 million financing round, one of the largest investments made in Africa’s electric mobility industry.
Prior to joining Spiro, Mr Badjatya served as Chief Executive Officer of Indofast Energy, the joint venture between Indian Oil Corporation and SUN Mobility. During his tenure, he oversaw the development of one of India’s largest battery-swapping ecosystems, operating more than 1,800 stations and supporting close to 90,000 vehicles daily.
At Spiro, he will lead the company’s strategic direction across multiple business verticals, including battery swapping, vehicle leasing, logistics, energy services and manufacturing. The company’s existing mobility operations will continue to be supported by Kaushik Burman, CEO Mobility, who remains focused on strengthening Spiro’s market leadership across its current and future operating regions.
Commenting on the appointment, Gagan Gupta, Founder and Chairman of Spiro, said the company is entering an important stage in its journey to expand sustainable transportation solutions across the African continent. He noted that Badjatya’s experience in scaling technology-driven mobility platforms would support the company’s ambitions in mobility, energy and digital innovation.
Anant Badjatya said Africa represents one of the most dynamic markets for electric transportation globally. He highlighted Spiro’s extensive network, strong operational foundation and commitment to making clean mobility accessible and affordable for communities across the continent.
Spiro currently operates the largest battery-swapping network for electric two-wheelers in Africa. The company has deployed more than 100,000 electric motorcycles and established over 2,500 battery-swapping stations, completing more than 30 million battery exchanges to date.
The company continues to expand its regional manufacturing and assembly footprint while supporting the transition away from fossil fuel-powered transportation. Through locally developed solutions and growing investments in clean mobility infrastructure, Spiro aims to strengthen sustainable transportation ecosystems across Africa.
