Auto component manufacturer Sona BLW Precision Forgings, popularly known as Sona Comstar started its operation at its latest manufacturing facility set-up in Manesar, Haryana. The facility, which is around five acres, will manufacture e-drive modules for the company’s global customers and is expected to provide direct employment to more than 700 skilled workers.
The total investment earmarked by Sona Comstar which will be going into this facility is around ₹370 crore. A major portion of this investment was spent on its Phase 1, and the rest to follow on further expansion in the coming years.
Talking about this new facility Sona Comstar Chairman Sunjay Kapur said that the plant will be utilized to cater to the need for manufacturing components for its global Electric Vehicle customers. “The new plant is equipped with the latest state-of-the-art technology, keeping in mind to fulfil the precision level quality expectations of our global customers," said Mr Kapur.
Incorporated in 1995 as Sona Okegawa Precision Forgings Limited, Sona Comstar is a reliable supplier for many global and Indian automotive customers which includes Ashok Leyland, Daimlers, Escorts, Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, Volvo Eicher, Volvo, Renault Nissan etc.
During 2019, Sona BLW acquired a leading manufacturer and designer of automobile starting and charging systems Comstar Automotive, giving its new identity, Sona Comstar. The company now supplies top quality EV components to Mahindra Electric and many global EV manufacturers. Sona Comstar is looking to raise ₹6,000 crores through an initial public offering (IPO), and last month company filed papers for the same.
