SKF Acquires 2C Composites to Enhance Magnetic Bearings Technology

SKF, a global leader in innovative industrial solutions, recently announced its acquisition of 2C Composites, a German supplier specialising in high-performance fibre composites. This strategic move is set to bolster SKF’s offerings in magnetic bearings, a key growth area for the company. With a focus on making products more efficient, durable, and repairable, SKF plays a vital role in enhancing rotating equipment performance and reducing environmental impacts.

2C Composites, known for its production of tubes, rotors, rolls, and braided sleeves using advanced techniques with carbon and ceramic fibers, will provide SKF with a unique and leading technology in composite layers. This technology is crucial in various applications, including the high-speed electric motor industry.

Frédéric Ponson, Director at SKF Magnetic Bearings, emphasised that this acquisition will strengthen SKF’s existing magnetic bearings capabilities and open new revenue streams. He noted the unique technology developed by 2C Composites as pivotal in this growth. In 2022, SKF achieved a record order intake for magnetic bearings, exceeding SEK 1 billion, underlining the importance of this technology in SKF’s portfolio.
