SKF India, the local arm of Swedish industrial giant SKF Group, has unveiled an ambitious expansion plan for the period 2025-2030, with a total investment expected to range between ₹4,600-5,000 crore. The funding will be spread across the company’s three key manufacturing plants in India.
The expansion will significantly boost production capacities at strategic locations: Haridwar will see a 50% increase in output, Pune’s operations will grow by 30%, and the Bangalore facility will see a 10% capacity increase.
This major investment comes at a time of transformation in India’s automotive industry, particularly in the shift towards electric vehicles (EVs). The plan focuses on producing components for both internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and EVs. Bearings for two-wheelers and EV powertrains will be manufactured at the Haridwar and Bangalore plants, while Pune will focus on unitized wheel end bearings for both passenger and commercial vehicles, across both ICE and EV platforms.
A company spokesperson said, “This expansion represents our long-term commitment to support the transformation of India’s automotive sector. Our investments are aligned with the rising demand for both traditional and electric vehicle components.”
The investment will be rolled out in phases: upgrades to the Bangalore facility are expected to be completed by 2026, with an estimated ₹100 million investment. The Haridwar plant is set for a ₹1,000-1,500 million expansion, to be completed by 2029. Pune will receive the largest share, with ₹3,000-3,500 million allocated for its expansion, targeted for completion by 2030.
The upgraded facilities will produce a variety of bearing technologies, including Deep Groove Ball Bearings (DGBB), Cylindrical Roller Bearings (CRB), Hub Bearing Units (HBU), and Tapered Roller Bearings (TRB), which are essential for a wide range of automotive applications.
This expansion will enable SKF India to tap into the growing automotive sector while supporting the country’s electric mobility goals. The investment highlights SKF India’s confidence in India’s manufacturing potential and its strategic importance as a hub for automotive components. The announcement comes at a time when India’s automotive sector is experiencing significant growth, spurred by rising vehicle demand and government incentives aimed at promoting electric mobility across the nation.
