SJVN has successfully synchronized the first 660 MW unit of its 1320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project (BTPP) with the National Grid, marking a major milestone in the project’s progress. This key development sets the stage for the commencement of commercial operations.
Bhupender Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director of SJVN, stated that this achievement reflects the dedication and hard work of the project team and all involved stakeholders. He emphasized that the project will play an important role in meeting the country’s increasing electricity demand while supporting economic development in Bihar.
Ajay Kumar Sharma, Director (Personnel), noted that the synchronization of this unit strengthens SJVN’s overall power generation capacity and reinforces its position in the energy sector. The Buxar Thermal Power Project, with a total capacity of 1320 MW (2×660 MW), is located in Chausa, Buxar district, Bihar. It is being executed by SJVN Thermal Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN. The project features advanced supercritical technology designed to improve operational efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
Developed at a cost of ₹13,756.56 crore, the project is expected to generate approximately 9,828.72 million units of electricity annually. Of the total generation, 85% will be supplied to Bihar, significantly boosting the state’s power supply and helping address peak-hour demand.
Beyond meeting energy needs, the project is also expected to bring lasting economic and social benefits to the region by improving power availability and supporting industrial and infrastructure development in Bihar and the surrounding eastern states.
