SJVN Ltd, the state-owned power giant, announced on Wednesday that Phase-1 of its 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project, being developed by its subsidiary SJVN Green Energy Ltd (SGEL), has begun commercial power generation. The first phase of the project has commenced with a supply of 241.77 MW of electricity, marking a significant milestone.
Full commissioning of the entire 1,000 MW solar capacity is expected by September 30, 2025. The 241.77 MW capacity in Phase-1 achieved its Commercial Operation Date (COD) on Wednesday, the company confirmed.
Once fully operational, the project will deliver solar power to three states: Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, and Uttarakhand. Located in Bikaner district, Rajasthan, the solar project is being developed under the Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) Scheme – Phase II, Tranche III, as part of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India’s initiative.
The project is being implemented under the Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) mode, contributing to the “Make in India” initiative by supporting the growth of the domestic solar manufacturing industry. SJVN aims to expand its capacity to 25,000 MW by 2030 and 50,000 MW by 2040 as part of its long-term growth strategy.
