SJVN has a portfolio of more than 16,000 MWs out of which 2,016.5 MWs are under operation while the rest are in multiple stages of development
On Monday, government enterprise Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) reported that they were assigned Category ‘I’ License for nationwide inter-state trading of power by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC). Its BSE filing notes that the order is dated January 10, 2022.
As per the order, the body has directed SJVN to be issued with Category ‘I’ License for inter-state trading in electricity in the whole of India. The order also states that no objections have been received on the petition filed by SJVN for the purpose of obtaining the license.
Currently, SJVN has a portfolio of more than 16,000 MWs out of which 2,016.5 MWs are under operation while the rest are in multiple stages of development. Also, CERC further adds that the entity will not engage in the business of electricity transmission during the period of subsistence of its trading license.
An order issued by CERC directing an entity to trade electricity across states in the country entitles such an entity to undertake the purchase of electricity from a seller in a state and resell it to a buyer based in the same state without procuring a separate license to facilitate intra-state trading from the respective State Commission. However, the order dictates that if the licensee fails to undertake trading in electricity within a year from the date of the license, the license is then liable for revocation in accordance with the provisions of the Act and Trading License Regulations.
