Simplex Castings Limited, one of India’s leading precision metallurgy and engineering companies, has received approval from the Research Designs & Standards Organisation (RDSO), Ministry of Railways, for prototype testing of Cast Steel CASNUB Bogies and associated critical components used in railway wagon applications. The development marks a significant step in the company’s renewed focus on strengthening its railway engineering business, a segment that historically played a defining role in its growth journey.

The approval has been granted under the fresh registration process initiated by RDSO for a range of railway bogie components. These include Cast Steel Side Frames, Cast Steel Bolsters, Centre Pivot Assemblies, and CASNUB 22HS/22HS(M) and 22RFT Bogies. Prototype testing will be conducted in line with RDSO specifications and prescribed quality standards, enabling the company to participate in future railway procurement opportunities.

India’s railway sector is undergoing rapid transformation, driven by higher investments in freight infrastructure, modernization of rolling stock, and expansion of dedicated freight corridors. The demand for technologically advanced wagon systems and high-quality cast components is expected to rise steadily over the coming years. With the latest approval, Simplex Castings is positioning itself to participate more actively in the expanding domestic railway supply ecosystem and pursue new tender opportunities across the sector.

The company has a longstanding legacy in railway component manufacturing and previously commanded a dominant share in the cast bogie market. Leveraging this experience, Simplex Castings is now strengthening its production capabilities to support future demand. Its marketing division has already begun tracking and participating in relevant railway tenders, while manufacturing facilities are undergoing capacity expansion and capital investment to support large-scale bogie production.

According to the company, the railway business is expected to emerge as a major contributor to overall revenues in the coming years. Simplex Castings estimates that the segment could generate revenues of nearly ₹50 crore by the end of the current financial year, with the potential to cross ₹100 crore by the end of the next financial year.

Commenting on the development, Chairman and Executive Director Ketan Shah said the RDSO approval reflects the company’s strong engineering heritage and commitment to quality manufacturing. He added that increasing investments in rail infrastructure and freight mobility are creating long-term opportunities for specialized engineering companies, and the approval will support the company’s efforts to scale its participation in the railway sector.

Simplex Castings Limited is recognised for its expertise in precision metallurgy and maintains a global business presence. Its infrastructure includes a cast iron foundry, heavy engineering and fabrication facilities, and advanced machining capabilities supported by modern equipment and CNC systems. The company also operates an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) division for turnkey projects, along with a dedicated design unit equipped with contemporary digital tools.
