SIG, a global provider of aseptic packaging solutions headquartered in Neuhausen, Switzerland, has announced that its first aseptic carton manufacturing facility in India is now fully operational. Located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, the plant was completed in just 20 months and represents a major milestone in SIG’s long-term growth strategy for the Indian and Asian markets.

India, the world’s largest milk producer and a significant juice market, offers strong growth potential for aseptic packaging solutions. The Ahmedabad facility will support SIG’s expanding customer base across the dairy and non-carbonated beverage sectors while also serving as an export hub for neighboring countries in Asia.

At full capacity, the plant is expected to create more than 300 direct jobs in Gujarat, in addition to generating substantial indirect employment through ancillary services and supply chains. The facility becomes the tenth aseptic carton plant in SIG’s global production network, reinforcing the company’s commitment to strengthening regional manufacturing capabilities.

SIG leadership highlighted that the new plant enhances supply responsiveness, reduces delivery lead times, and improves service flexibility for customers operating in a fast-growing and dynamic market. Since SIG entered India in 2018, the company has experienced rapid expansion, and the Ahmedabad facility positions it to meet rising domestic demand while supporting export growth.

Aseptic cartons play a critical role in India, where packaged milk penetration remains relatively low and cold-chain infrastructure is limited. The technology allows food and beverages to remain shelf-stable for extended periods without preservatives or energy-intensive refrigeration, enabling safer and more sustainable distribution of nutrition at scale.

With the plant now fully operational, SIG strengthens its role in India’s evolving food and beverage packaging ecosystem. The investment supports sustainable manufacturing, local value creation, and export potential, while reinforcing India’s position as an emerging hub for advanced food processing and packaging solutions.
