Siemens Digital Industries Software has announced the 2025 release of its Solid Edge® software, introducing powerful new features designed to enhance productivity in product development. The release also debuts Solid Edge X, a secure cloud-based version of Solid Edge offered as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution. With integrated AI-enabled tools, Solid Edge X empowers users to work more efficiently and supports a flexible, scalable experience.

John Miller, Siemens’ senior vice president of Mainstream Engineering, explained, “Solid Edge X reflects our commitment to providing accessible, scalable tools for our customers. This release combines cloud-native collaboration with AI-driven tools to help manufacturers accelerate innovation in a fast-evolving industry.”

Solid Edge 2025 delivers a suite of enhancements, including increased modeling speed, refined sheet metal design with new etch and bend features, and streamlined Model-Based Definition (MBD) creation. According to Michael Orr, a design drafter at Ariel Corporation, the updates are intuitive and help boost productivity by simplifying design workflows.

Solid Edge X

Solid Edge X brings the features of Solid Edge into a SaaS environment, reducing IT complexity and supporting collaboration across devices with automatic updates. Integrated with Siemens’ Teamcenter® software, Solid Edge X provides a cloud-based data management system for seamless teamwork across engineering and manufacturing. New AI-powered in-app assistance keeps engineers focused by providing real-time help to minimize workflow interruptions.

Solid Edge 2025’s improved MBD tools offer a hybrid annotation capability for efficient 3D model detailing. Updated feature control frames and surface texture symbols support evolving industry standards, while automatic dimensioning reduces errors and ensures consistency.

Enhanced customization options allow users to tailor their design experience, with new vertical command bars and context toolbars to streamline workflows. The new Discovery Center provides a centralized hub for resources, training, and trials directly within the software.

Solid Edge 2025 further strengthens its sheet metal capabilities, introducing features for handling complex geometries and improving bend calculations. The updates support bend deductions and allowances for precision, while new etching capabilities and enhanced bend properties ensure accurate design.

Collaboration and Data Management
Solid Edge’s integration with Teamcenter® Share supports collaboration, project tracking, and data sharing for files up to 500 GB, helping teams work seamlessly on complex assemblies. Faster data access within Teamcenter’s PLM integration reduces load times, allowing users to start projects quickly with large datasets. Enhanced material management further aids in maintaining consistency, traceability, and accuracy, promoting sustainable material usage.

Solid Edge 2025 now includes Capital Electra X for cloud-based electrical design, enabling engineers to create schematics efficiently on any device while enhancing workflows and reducing costs. Solid Edge CAM Pro adds smart features for part programming, including automatic recommendations for toolpath creation and advanced options for offset roughing and face milling. Automatic hole machining further simplifies slot and hole selection.

With faster mesh generation and improved Simcenter™ FLOEFD™ integration, Solid Edge 2025 allows users to set up complex simulations, analyzing fluid flow and heat transfer to optimize product performance. Enhanced interoperability with NX™ software enables seamless data transfer, while IFC file support facilitates information exchange for construction projects.
