Siemens Limited has secured an order worth approximately Rs. 210 crore from IRCON International Limited for the electrification of the Sivok-Rangpo rail line. This project marks a significant milestone as it is part of the first electrified rail connection in the region, linking Sikkim to the national railway network.
The project will incorporate advanced sustainable technologies, including a Rigid Overhead Catenary System for tunnels, SCADA systems for centralized monitoring and control, predictive maintenance, and various eco-friendly infrastructure practices.
Gunjan Vakharia, Head of Mobility Business at Siemens Limited, stated, “After successfully electrifying the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link, which connected Kashmir valley to the national rail grid, we are proud to partner with IRCON International Limited once again. By applying cutting-edge technologies such as our Rigid Overhead Catenary system and predictive maintenance across 40 kilometers of tunnels in the challenging Himalayan terrain, we are making rail operations more sustainable and efficient. This project not only strengthens critical infrastructure in a strategically important region but also sets new standards for railway electrification in tough environments.”
