Siemens Mobility, alongside its consortium partners Bozankaya and ST Engineering Urban Solutions (Thailand) Ltd., has been awarded major rail contracts in Thailand. These include projects for Bangkok’s Metropolitan Rapid Transit (MRT) system and the expansion of intercity rail in Northern Thailand.

The MRT projects involve delivering 53 new trains and implementing cutting-edge signaling and maintenance systems for the Orange and Blue Lines. Meanwhile, Siemens Mobility will enhance connectivity through the Den Chai-Chiang Rai-Chiang Khong double-track railway project in Northern Thailand, marking a significant step forward for the country’s transportation network.

Commissioned by CH. Karnchang Public Company Limited and Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company Limited, these initiatives aim to boost efficiency, capacity, and sustainability in Bangkok’s urban transport system and the broader railway network. The projects will be executed in phases, spanning from 2024 to 2039.

Michael Peter, CEO of Siemens Mobility, highlighted the long-standing partnership with Thailand, stating, “With over three decades of collaboration, we are proud to support Thailand’s growth and provide sustainable, emission-free transport solutions. The addition of 53 trains, advanced systems, and long-term maintenance will significantly enhance connectivity and convenience for millions of passengers daily.”

In partnership with Bozankaya and ST Engineering Urban Solutions Ltd., Siemens Mobility has secured a turnkey contract for the Orange Line. This includes delivering 32 three-car trains and integrating mechanical and electrical systems along a 35.9-kilometer route with both underground and elevated sections. The trains are designed for passenger comfort, with spacious interiors, modern air conditioning, and advanced information systems.

The project also aligns with Bangkok’s sustainability goals by incorporating energy-efficient technologies to reduce the system’s carbon footprint. Siemens Mobility will oversee long-term maintenance to ensure seamless operations.

Siemens Mobility will deliver 21 additional trains and enhance signaling and SCADA systems for the 48-kilometer Blue Line, which includes 38 stations. Having supported the Blue Line’s development since 2002, Siemens continues to modernize this vital component of Bangkok’s transport network. Maintenance services will be provided for the trains and key systems until 2039, ensuring reliability and efficiency.

To strengthen intercity rail, Siemens Mobility is spearheading the Den Chai-Chiang Rai-Chiang Khong double-track project. Covering 219 kilometers across two segments, the project will feature 18 stations and state-of-the-art signaling and telecommunications systems, including Centralized Traffic Control (CTC) and Automatic Train Protection (ATP) adhering to European Train Control System (ETCS Level 1) standards.

Local engineering teams will lead the implementation, with support from Siemens experts in Spain, Australia, and Germany. The project includes advanced components like Trackguard Westrace MKII interlocking and Clearguard ACM250 axle counters.

Siemens Mobility’s history in Thailand dates back over 30 years, contributing to landmark projects such as Bangkok’s first elevated transit system in 1994 and the city’s initial subway line in 2004. The company continues to play a pivotal role in modernizing Thailand’s rail infrastructure, delivering sustainable and innovative transport solutions to meet the nation’s growing mobility needs.
