Siemens is set to increase its manufacturing capacity in India as part of the country’s Make in India initiative, aiming to cater to both domestic and international demand, according to Matthias Rebellius, Member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG and CEO of Smart Infrastructure. Speaking at the Elecrama 2025 event in Greater Noida, Rebellius emphasized Siemens’ commitment to meeting the growing needs of power generation, transmission, distribution, and rail transportation both in India and globally. Since 2015, Siemens has invested over Rs 9,000 crore in India, with an additional Rs 1,100 crore pledged in November 2023, underscoring its long-term commitment to the country.
“We aim to expand our manufacturing capabilities under the Make in India program to meet the increasing demands of both local and international markets for energy and rail solutions,” Rebellius stated.
With a workforce of over 34,000 employees and 32 factories across India, Siemens is aligning itself with the nation’s ambitious economic goals and its growing role as a hub of innovation. Rebellius highlighted the abundant opportunities in India, particularly with the government’s focus on digitalization to boost energy efficiency, improve grid management, and transform the country into a global manufacturing leader. To address rising energy needs and promote clean energy, India is modernizing its power transmission and distribution systems.
Additionally, Rebellius mentioned that infrastructure ministries are being encouraged to create a three-year pipeline of projects, with public-private partnerships playing a key role in financing. “Siemens is already a trusted partner in supporting investments and in the Indian government’s vision for Viksit Bharat 2047,” he added. The company’s portfolio includes locally developed solutions for low-voltage power distribution, which are not only vital to India’s electrification future but are also exported globally.
