Siemens and German clean-tech firm TURN2X have launched a strategic international partnership to expand the production of renewable natural gas (RNG), a climate-neutral alternative to fossil-based energy. This collaboration brings together TURN2X’s breakthrough technology with Siemens’ expertise in industrial automation and digital systems to scale operations and accelerate the global transition to cleaner energy sources.
TURN2X produces synthetic methane by combining green hydrogen with carbon dioxide captured from bioethanol facilities. The resulting fuel—renewable natural gas—can be used within existing infrastructure while significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. By leveraging Siemens’ advanced technology portfolio, the partnership will enhance TURN2X’s ability to scale up its modular RNG plants while improving efficiency and long-term operational performance.
“This partnership shows how our technology supports pioneering energy solutions,” said Axel Lorenz, CEO of Process Automation at Siemens. “We’re helping TURN2X bring climate-neutral gas production to the industrial level, supporting the broader push for sustainable energy systems.”
Dr Dominik Schollenberger, Chief Technology Officer at TURN2X, emphasized the importance of technology in enabling rapid growth:
“Expanding production at speed while staying cost-effective is our top priority. Siemens’ digital solutions allow us to remotely manage operations with high precision, ensuring profitability from the start. This collaboration gives us the technological backbone to meet rising demand for green gas worldwide.”
Under the terms of this partnership, Siemens will act as the principal technology collaborator and solution provider for TURN2X. This strategic alliance is designed to advance TURN2X’s mission in renewable methane production by integrating Siemens’ cutting-edge technologies across multiple operational domains. The collaboration marks a significant step forward in aligning industrial expertise with sustainability goals.
One of the key focus areas of the partnership is process optimization. Siemens will deliver advanced automation systems and customized instrumentation tailored specifically to TURN2X’s renewable methane technology. These tools are expected to enhance precision and control within production systems, improving overall output and operational stability.
To boost efficiency, Siemens will implement digital twin technology and energy management solutions. These digital tools will enable high-performance operations that can be remotely monitored and controlled, ensuring seamless day-to-day management and adaptability across production sites. The integration of these technologies will help reduce downtime and maximize energy utilization.
The agreement also emphasizes future-ready infrastructure, with Siemens providing cybersecurity frameworks and standardized system architectures. This approach will allow TURN2X to deploy new facilities quickly and securely, while maintaining scalability. The collaboration is structured to support TURN2X’s long-term growth, ensuring that each new installation adheres to robust digital and security standards from inception. This integrated approach is designed to ensure reliable, efficient, and scalable RNG production—key to expanding the role of renewable gas in decarbonizing energy systems.
TURN2X’s patented process has been connected to Germany’s natural gas network since 2019. In March 2024, the company launched the world’s first commercial-scale RNG plant in Spain, marking a milestone in practical applications of synthetic methane. The company’s technology enables full compatibility with existing gas pipelines—unlocking over 2 million kilometers of infrastructure and 1,000 TWh of energy storage capacity across Europe.
