SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) participated in the recently held India Energy Week 2023 (IEW 2023) in Bengaluru from February 6th to 8th, 2023. The event, held under the patronage of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, saw the highest level of participation from the Indian government and public sector undertakings (PSUs) with the support of the Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry (FIPI).
As part of the celebration of India’s G20 Presidency and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pledge to reach net-zero emissions by 2070, SIAM organized a “Sustainable Mobility Pavilion” at IEW 2023. The pavilion showcased the readiness of automobile manufacturers to transition towards sustainable mobility through the adoption of various technology options, including ethanol (E-20), flex-fuel vehicles, electric, and hybrid vehicles.
SIAM’s pavilion exhibited 12 products of ethanol, flex fuel, and electrified vehicles including hybrid and battery electric vehicles, demonstrating the compatibility with E-20 and electric/hybrid readiness. The rally, which was flagged off by the Honorable Prime Minister in the presence of delegates from leading energy-producing and consuming countries, showcased E-20, E-85, CNG, electric, electric hybrid, and hydrogen vehicles.
India is expected to experience the largest increase in energy demand over the next two decades, making its energy transition crucial in global energy markets. SIAM’s presence at IEW 2023 aimed to launch sustainable fuels to decarbonize India’s fuel market by introducing vehicles that are materially compliant with ethanol. Demonstrations of the filling of these vehicles were held in New Delhi/Bengaluru and Pune, and will soon be expanded to major cities.
SIAM’s participation alongside PSUs and private OMCs at IEW 2023 strengthened the bond of one nation-partnership and came at a critical time, as energy security and environmental sustainability challenges impact long-term energy transition and paths towards decarbonization.
