The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has taken a major step towards promoting road safety in India with the launch of its “Road Safety Education & Awareness Programme” exclusively designed for school students. In collaboration with Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), SIAM aims to instill responsible road behavior and foster road safety consciousness among young minds.
The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) is a not-for-profit apex national body representing all major vehicle and vehicular engine manufacturers in India. SIAM’s vision is to make India the destination of choice for automobile design and manufacture while enhancing the competitiveness of the Indian automobile industry and achieving global quality standards. The programme was inaugurated by Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, who emphasized the need for education about traffic laws and responsible road behavior. SIAM’s President, Vinod Agarwal, stressed that India accounts for 11% of global road fatalities, making initiatives like this crucial to safeguard lives and improve road safety.
Under the “SIAM Surakshit Safar (Safe Journey)” initiative, SIAM has developed comprehensive road safety study materials for different age groups. The curriculum covers essential topics such as pedestrian safety, road signs, safety gears, legal tips, and responsible driving. SIAM aims to reach over 14 lakh students in 1250 Kendriya Vidyalaya schools across India through this educational drive. Nidhi Pandey, IIS, Commissioner of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, expressed the commitment to making this partnership with SIAM a success. Road safety is a priority in KVs’ curriculum, and this collaboration will further strengthen their efforts to promote responsible road behavior among students.
SIAM, as the apex body of the automobile industry, has been actively working to raise road safety awareness across India. The focus on educating students at a young age is seen as a powerful tool to cultivate a culture of responsible road behavior and foster road safety learning in the community. The “Road Safety Education & Awareness Programme” is part of SIAM’s efforts to contribute to a safer and better tomorrow for the citizens of India. Through collaborations and community initiatives, SIAM aims to continue its commitment to improving road safety, reducing accidents, and preserving lives.
As SIAM moves forward with its “Road Safety Education & Awareness Programme,” it strives to make a significant impact on road safety, education, and responsible driving behavior among India’s future generation. With the collective efforts of SIAM, KVS, and other stakeholders, a safer road journey lies ahead for the country.
