Shree Cement Limited, a prominent Indian cement producer, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with RITES Limited, a government-owned enterprise under the Ministry of Railways. This collaboration aims to enhance rail infrastructure supporting Shree Cement’s manufacturing units, enabling more efficient and sustainable transportation of raw materials and finished products.
The agreement will remain in effect for five years from the signing date, with an option to extend based on mutual agreement. Neeraj Akhoury, Managing Director of Shree Cement, emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating, “As our manufacturing footprint grows across India, it is essential to strengthen our logistics and supply chain capabilities. Partnering with RITES is a strategic move to develop a more efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly transportation system that supports our expansion plans.”
Under the MoU, RITES will provide comprehensive services from initial planning to project completion related to upgrading, renovating, and establishing new rail connections for the movement of raw materials, cement, and related goods. RITES will also serve as the Project Management Consultant (PMC), overseeing all stages of infrastructure projects, including feasibility studies, detailed project reports, and execution oversight.
Additionally, RITES will assist in obtaining necessary approvals from the Ministry of Railways and other authorities for civil works, signaling and telecommunications, overhead electrification, and mechanical engineering. The company will also support Shree Cement in selecting contractors by assessing the qualifications and capabilities of bidders during the tendering process.
