SGS, a global leader in testing, inspection, and certification services, has announced its collaboration with Jaguar Land Rover (JLR). This partnership comes as a result of JLR’s recognition of SGS’s new Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) automotive testing facility in Chakan, Pune.

In a recent announcement, SGS, a renowned company in the field of testing, inspection, and certification, has highlighted its position as a global leader in sustainability, quality, and integrity. With a workforce of 99,600 individuals across 2,600 offices and laboratories, SGS is dedicated to creating a better, safer, and more connected world.

This cutting-edge laboratory, inaugurated in November 2022, marks JLR’s first venture with a third-party independent laboratory in India. It grants SGS the authority to conduct testing in compliance with the JLR-EMC-CS: EMC Specification, which outlines compatibility standards for a wide array of electrical and electronic components and subsystems crucial to the JLR brand.

EMC, or electromagnetic compatibility, refers to the capability of electrical systems and devices to operate effectively within their electromagnetic surroundings. Its effectiveness lies in the containment of unintentional electromagnetic energy generation, transmission, and reception, thereby minimizing the risk of electromagnetic interference.

Dipjyoti Banerjee, serving as the Executive Director at SGS India, expressed deep pride in the esteemed acknowledgment received from JLR. Banerjee highlighted the remarkable achievement of SGS’s specialist testing teams located in Pune, who successfully showcased 100% compliance with JLR’s rigorous specifications.

Emphasizing their unwavering dedication, Banerjee reiterated SGS’s commitment to consistently meet OEM standards and deliver superior testing assistance across JLR’s local and global supply chains. Covering an area exceeding 2.2 acres, SGS’s cutting-edge testing center is strategically positioned at the center of India’s growing automotive sector.

Providing a comprehensive suite of EMI/EMC tests for automotive components, the facility boasts a unified setup and features shielded rooms, anechoic chambers, strip line/TEM cells, pulse generators, and state-of-the-art digitized and automated monitoring tools like transceivers, cameras, and software, all aimed at ensuring efficient testing processes.

SGS’s expert testing team in Pune has achieved a significant milestone by demonstrating 100% compliance with JLR-EMC-CS EMC specifications. These specifications encompass a wide range of tests, including Radiated RF Emissions (RE 310), Conducted RF Emissions (CE 420), Conducted Transient Emissions (CE 410), RF Immunity (RI 112, RI 114, RI 115).

Magnetic Field Emissions (RE 320), Magnetic Field Immunity (RI 140), Coupled Immunity (RI 130, RI 150), Immunity from Transient Disturbances (CI 220), Immunity from Power Cycling (CI 230), Immunity to Ground Voltage Offset (CI 250), Immunity to Low Voltage Transients (CI 265), Immunity to Voltage Overstress (CI 270), and Electrostatic Discharge (CI 280).

The Pune facility’s EMI/EMC testing capabilities extend to traditional automotive electronics, high-voltage e-mobility/electric vehicle (EV) components and systems, as well as two/three-wheeler vehicle testing and consumer electronics. This scope of testing enables SGS to provide high-precision EMC measurements for a variety of industries and applications.
