The semiconductor initiative that Zoho Corporation is involved in has officially submitted its application to the Indian government, as revealed by Sridhar Vembu, the Co-founder and CEO of the company, on Wednesday. He emphasized that although this marks an important advancement, thorough scrutiny and evaluation across various aspects of the project are still necessary.
Speaking to reporters, Vembu mentioned that the team is actively working on several components, such as finalizing the technology and identifying key partners. However, he cautioned that it is “too early” to divulge specific details, including the final location for the semiconductor facility.
“We have completed the filing of our application, but it is still awaiting approval,” Vembu explained. He emphasized that although the government is “energized” by the push to boost semiconductor production within India, it is committed to conducting a thorough review before moving forward. This involves evaluating the proposed technology, the viability of its use, and a variety of other intricate considerations.
According to Vembu, the evaluation process will be highly detailed and meticulous, ensuring that all aspects of the project are thoroughly examined. “It’s a very exhaustive and critical evaluation,” he stated. “There are complex questions about the viability of partners, the soundness of the technology, the project’s potential market impact, and many other nuances.”
Given the advanced and sophisticated nature of semiconductor technologies, the process naturally requires time and careful consideration, he added. While the semiconductor project remains in its initial stages, Zoho is simultaneously making strides in other technological ventures. On Wednesday, the company introduced Vikra, a seller application designed to integrate with the ONDC platform.
Vikra aims to enhance digital commerce by providing sellers with easy-to-use tools to manage their operations within the ONDC ecosystem, a government-backed initiative aimed at promoting open and decentralized digital commerce in India. In addition to Vikra, Zoho also announced the launch of Zoho IoT, a scalable, low-code platform that enables businesses to create and deploy custom IoT solutions.
With the increasing demand for IoT technologies across industries, Zoho IoT is positioned as a flexible, user-friendly platform that will empower businesses to develop tailored solutions to meet their unique needs. These announcements were made during Zoholics India, Zoho’s annual user conference. Highlighting the company’s achievements, Zoho shared that it witnessed an impressive 31% customer growth in India during 2023.
This reflects the growing demand for Zoho’s wide range of software solutions in the country, further cementing its position as a leading technology company. As Zoho continues to expand its technological offerings and explore new frontiers such as semiconductors, the company remains committed to innovation and growth, both in India and globally.
