Sembcorp Green Hydrogen, the green hydrogen unit of Sembcorp Industries from Singapore has partnered with two Japanese companies, Sojitz and Kyushu Electric Power to supply green ammonia produced in India to Japan, contributing to Sembcorp’s goal of becoming a major green energy supplier. Sembcorp Green Hydrogen has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Sojitz and Kyushu Electric Power to explore opportunities for green ammonia production. The focus will be on the construction of green ammonia facilities in India, with Sembcorp taking the lead as the primary developer. This initiative aligns with Japan’s strategy to incorporate green ammonia as a pivotal energy source to decarbonize its power supply mix, supporting the government’s ambitious target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
The partnership comes amid Sembcorp’s mission to invest approximately USD 10.5 billion (SGD 14 billion), constituting around 75% of its total investments from 2024 to 2028, to boost the growth of renewable energy. The company aims to cut its carbon emissions by 50% by 2028, emphasizing its dedication to sustainability and environmentally friendly practices. As a leading developer in the green energy sector, Sembcorp is leveraging this collaboration to expand its presence in India, where it already boasts a substantial gross renewable portfolio of 3.7 gigawatts.
