Sembcorp Industries announced that its subsidiary, Sembcorp Green Infra, has been awarded a 150 MW solar project integrated with a 300 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) by the Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd (SECI). This project, part of SECI’s 2GW tender for Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS)-connected solar power projects with 4GWh of storage, will follow a build-own-operate model.
The Letter of Award (LOA) confirms Sembcorp’s role in developing this hybrid project designed to supply on-demand energy during peak hours for four hours daily over a 25-year contract period. The initiative marks Sembcorp’s first hybrid solar and battery storage venture in India, strengthening its renewable energy portfolio in the country to nearly 6 GW, including over 2 GW of greenfield projects secured in 2024.
Globally, Sembcorp’s renewable capacity now reaches 16.5 GW, inclusive of an additional 49 MW under acquisition. The project is expected to commence commercial operations within 24 months of signing the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and will be financed through a mix of internal resources and debt.
The development aligns with Sembcorp’s commitment to supporting India’s energy transition and advancing its sustainable energy goals. The project is not expected to have a significant financial impact on the company’s earnings or net tangible assets for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2024.
