Sembcorp Industries, through its renewable energy arm Sembcorp Green Infra, has been selected by SJVN Ltd to develop a 150 megawatt solar power facility paired with a 300 megawatt-hour battery storage system in India. The initiative is part of SJVN’s broader 1.2 gigawatt program for interstate solar projects incorporating 600 MW/2.4 GWh of battery capacity.
The project will follow a build-own-operate model and is contingent on the signing of a 25-year power purchase agreement with SJVN. Once operational, it will deliver solar electricity and provide energy storage to meet peak demand for four hours each day. Commercial operations are scheduled to commence within two years of finalizing the agreement.
Funding will be secured through a combination of internal resources and external borrowing. This development marks the company’s second hybrid solar and storage project in the country, increasing its total renewable capacity in India to 6.3 gigawatts. On a global scale, the group’s renewable energy portfolio now stands at 17.7 gigawatts, including projects under acquisition.
