Seco is advancing sustainability efforts by employing Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) to achieve environmental goals and help customers make greener choices. LCA evaluates the environmental footprint of products throughout their life cycle, from raw material extraction to disposal. This approach offers critical insights into metrics like carbon emissions (CO2eq) and other environmental factors, fostering internal improvements and enhancing transparency for customers.

This year, Seco focused on two key pilot projects to advance its sustainability initiatives: a program in Fagersta, Sweden, evaluated the environmental impact of a substantial portion of the turning insert portfolio, while a collaboration in Lottum, the Netherlands, pioneered a scalable Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) process for Solid End Mills, laying the groundwork for future advancements in sustainable manufacturing.T hese pilots set new benchmarks for understanding the environmental effects of tooling on component manufacturing, combining impact data with cutting performance metrics. Alongside programs like the Reconditioning Program and Used Carbide Recycling Program, these initiatives highlight Seco’s dedication to sustainable manufacturing practices.

Seco plans to expand LCA coverage across its portfolio and enhance its online platform, MyPages, by adding more sustainability data. The platform simplifies customer access to services like quotes, product searches, and tool recommendations while integrating environmental impact insights. By offering LCA as a service for demos and testing, Seco empowers partners to conduct feasibility studies with a sustainability focus.

Based in Fagersta, Sweden, and active in over 75 countries, Seco has been a global leader in metal cutting solutions for nearly a century. Its expertise spans indexable and solid milling, turning, holemaking, threading, and tooling systems, ensuring precision and quality throughout the manufacturing process.
