Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited (SDHI) has entered into a partnership with Varex Imaging Corporation to locally manufacture high-tech cargo and vehicle inspection systems. The collaboration marks a significant step toward strengthening India’s security infrastructure and boosting domestic production capabilities.
Varex Imaging Corporation, based in Salt Lake City, Utah, is internationally recognized for its expertise in linear accelerators and imaging technologies. Under the terms of the agreement, SDHI will take on the exclusive manufacturing of Varex’s advanced high-energy imaging systems at its facility in Pipavav, Gujarat. These systems are designed to scan cargo at land borders and seaports, offering enhanced detection capabilities for security operations across India.
This partnership addresses the increasing demand from Indian authorities for modern cargo screening tools, while also aligning with the national “Make in India” mission. By producing these systems locally, the venture aims to offer cutting-edge inspection technologies tailored for Indian conditions, while fostering self-reliance in a critical area of homeland security.
SDHI, formerly Reliance Naval and Engineering Limited, is a major player in shipbuilding and industrial fabrication. The company operates India’s largest dry dock and has a production capacity of 144,000 tons annually. Its strategically located shipyard on the west coast positions it well to serve both defence and commercial clients. SDHI remains focused on delivering quality, innovation, and sustainable growth across India’s maritime and heavy engineering sectors.
