Schwing Stetter India, a leading manufacturer of concrete and construction machinery in India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT Madras) to advance sustainable solutions within the construction sector. As part of this collaboration, Schwing Stetter India becomes a Platinum Member of the Technologies for Low Carbon Lean Concrete (TLC2) program and joins IIT Madras’ Centre of Excellence Advisory Board.
In alignment with India’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2070, Schwing Stetter India showcased its range of sustainable construction machinery at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. The display featured eco-friendly products such as Construction and Demolition Waste Crushers, Concrete Recycling Plants, Sludge Pumps, Fire & Life Safety Equipment (Articulating Water Tower – AWT 36), and the Truck Mixer Pump (FBP 29).
The company’s collaboration with IIT Madras has already led to significant contributions, including a joint study with Chennai Metro on the reuse of construction and demolition waste aggregates in concrete production, the findings of which were published in a report. This partnership aims to further develop energy-efficient and environmentally friendly construction methods, integrating academic research with industry practice to drive innovation.
As part of this initiative, Schwing Stetter engineers will also undergo skill development training by IIT Madras faculty, and various collaborative projects will be carried out. V.G. Sakthikumar, Chairman & Managing Director of Schwing Stetter India, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “This collaboration is a crucial step toward transforming the Indian construction industry with sustainable solutions. Our joint work with IIT Madras will help drive advancements in low-carbon concrete technologies and meet the growing demand for sustainable materials.”
Professor Manu Santhanam, Principal Investigator at the Centre of Excellence, added, “We aim to upgrade existing technologies and develop new methods to extract high-quality materials from waste, such as stones, sand, and reactive concrete fines, ensuring they match the properties of natural materials.”
This MoU underscores Schwing Stetter India’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and technological progress, reinforcing the company’s role in developing advanced construction solutions that support India’s infrastructure growth and environmental objectives.
