Schwing Stetter India, a prominent manufacturer of construction and concreting equipment, has opened India’s first all-women service centre in Chennai. The centre was inaugurated by Ms Michaela Küchler, Consul General of Germany to India. This initiative aims to break traditional gender norms and encourage more women to pursue careers in the construction and infrastructure sectors.

Located in Poonamallee, Chennai, the facility is staffed by 17 trained women technicians, aged 20 to 25, who specialize in servicing and maintaining concrete pumps and mixers. Their skills range from troubleshooting to preventive maintenance and complete machine overhauls.

Speaking at the launch, V G Sakthikumar, Chairman and Managing Director of Schwing Stetter India, highlighted the company’s commitment to empowering women in the industry. “This all-women service centre reflects our confidence in the capabilities of women in manufacturing and infrastructure. By harnessing their potential, we aim to foster a more inclusive workforce. We plan to have 50% women across our workforce, inspiring future generations of female engineers and technicians,” he stated.

The facility ensures a safe and supportive working environment, equipped with safety gear, tools, transportation, and on-site medical services. Schwing Stetter India intends to open similar centres across the country.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2023, Schwing Stetter India, a subsidiary of Germany’s Schwing GmbH, is a leading player in concrete preparation, placement, transportation, and recycling. The company manufactures a wide range of machinery, including concrete batching plants, truck mixers, concrete pumps, and more. They also support sustainability through their “#GoGreenwithSchwing” initiative, planting 250,000 trees across India.

In addition to concrete machinery, Schwing Stetter offers various equipment like concrete pavers, cranes, excavators, and drilling rigs, serving infrastructure developers and ready-mix concrete suppliers. The company operates in 12 countries and has sales and service centres in over 150 countries worldwide.
