Schneider Electric, a global leader in energy management and automation, has introduced enhanced cybersecurity features for its SCADAPack™ 470i and 474i smart Remote Terminal Units (RTUs). These new capabilities allow critical infrastructure operators to manage RTU access securely, even in remote and harsh environments, with the same ease as managing employee email access.

With rising cyber threats targeting water systems, oil and gas pipelines, and other essential services, securing OT infrastructure has become a priority. The SCADAPack 470i and 474i serve as all-in-one solutions for remote monitoring and control, enabling users to leverage familiar IT security tools, such as Active Directory™, to enhance OT protection.

Built on a rugged RTU platform with Linux flexibility, these devices can host edge services, protocols, and applications for seamless OT security integration. Additionally, the role-based access control (RBAC) features of the SCADAPack 47xi support compliance with cybersecurity regulations, incorporating IP firewall, NAT, and DNP3 secure authentication.

“The increasing vulnerability of critical infrastructure, such as water treatment facilities and energy pipelines, highlights the urgent need for stronger OT security,” said James Redmond, Schneider Electric’s Global Offer Manager for SCADAPack. “By integrating industry-standard security features into our smart RTUs, we provide a cost-effective way to safeguard essential services while ensuring continuous, secure operations.”

The SCADAPack 470i and 474i set a new benchmark as the first RTUs with built-in RBAC functionality. Their advanced security features simplify design, installation, and maintenance while reducing overall costs, making them a valuable asset for enhancing cybersecurity in OT environments.
