Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), a Fortune Global 500 company and a major entity in India’s oil and gas sector, has announced that Sanjay Khanna has taken on the additional responsibility of Chairman and Managing Director. He will continue to serve as Director (Refineries).
Mr Khanna holds a degree in Chemical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, and a postgraduate qualification in Finance Management from the University of Mumbai. He brings over 30 years of professional experience in refinery operations and technical services.
He has led multiple high-value projects related to the establishment of process units at BPCL’s refineries located in Mumbai, Kochi, and Numaligarh. Before his current role, he held leadership positions at both the Kochi and Mumbai refineries. As Executive Director of Kochi Refinery, he was instrumental in the commissioning of BPCL’s first niche petrochemical initiative—the Propylene Derivative Petrochemical Project (PDPP).
Mr Khanna also holds board positions at Bharat Petro Resources Limited and Ratnagiri Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited. Additionally, he serves as Chairperson of the Technical Committee for Petroleum Refineries under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

BPCL has installed electric vehicle charging stations at more than 6,500 fuel stations. The company is working towards its target of achieving Net Zero for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2040. Its strategic initiatives are aligned with sustainable development goals, with ongoing community engagement in sectors such as education, water management, health, skill development, and infrastructure.
