Leading cutting tool specialist Sandvik Coromant has announced the launch of an innovative milling concept, CoroMill® MR80, designed to tackle challenging roughing operations in the face and profile milling of steel and stainless steel materials.
A Versatile Milling Concept
CoroMill® MR80 features a double-sided round insert design, offering more inserts than standard round insert cutters. It is ideally suited for low-depth face milling and profile milling applications in both steel and stainless steel, with a depth of cut of up to 3 mm. Initially designed for machining cast stainless components in the automotive sector, including turbochargers and exhaust manifolds, the CoroMill® MR80 has been further refined to cater to steel milling applications, such as the die and mold segment. This makes it a versatile milling concept that enhances productivity and cost-efficiency while prioritizing safety.
Security Meets Efficiency
One of the key advantages of CoroMill® MR80 is its round cutting edge, providing exceptional security in challenging machining conditions. The design also incorporates a shim for added security, safeguarding the cutter body from deformation and minimizing the risk of machining accidents. This ensures that the inserts remain securely in place during cutting, preventing micro-movements.
Economical and Productive
CoroMill® MR80 offers an economical solution with its double-sided inserts featuring 12 indexing possibilities within a 3 mm depth of cut. This results in more parts produced per set of inserts and permits a higher table feed, boosting overall productivity. Additionally, the enhanced security and reliability of the tool reduce damage to the cutter body and inserts, translating into cost savings. The lightweight cutting geometry allows for use in challenging machining situations, even with extended overhangs.
Ideal for Complex Applications
CoroMill® MR80 is particularly well-suited for applications with low cutting loads or where vibration needs to be minimized, such as automotive cast stainless components with intricate shapes and die and mould applications. Thanks to its double-sided negative concept, it generates low cutting forces, making it an ideal choice for these challenging scenarios.
Product Offering
The CoroMill® MR80 assortment includes cylindrical and Arbor cutter bodies with diameters ranging from 32 to 100 mm, offering 3–12 cutting teeth, even pitch, and shim protection. All cutter bodies are equipped with an internal coolant supply. The double-sided E-L50 inserts offer straightforward indexing (6 + 6) and are recommended for use with a 3 mm depth of cut.
