Significant productivity gains are just some of the benefits offered by the new CoroCut® 2 system.
Sandvik Coromant introduces the CoroCut® 2, an upgraded version of the CoroCut® 1-2 parting and grooving concept. This advanced system offers enhanced stability, flexibility, and productivity. It maintains the versatility, cost-efficiency, and secure machining of its predecessor while incorporating innovative features such as internal coolant, improved clamping, and updated grades and geometries. The CoroCut® 2 is poised to elevate precision in parting and grooving, providing a more reliable and efficient solution for various applications.

Cutting tool and tooling system specialist, Sandvik Coromant is proud to introduce the CoroCut® 2, a significant upgrade to its renowned CoroCut® 1-2 parting and grooving concept. This improved system offers enhanced stability, flexibility, and productivity for all parting and grooving operations.

The CoroCut® 2 maintains all the features that users have come to appreciate from its predecessor, including versatility, cost-efficiency, and secure machining. Jenny Claus, Product Manager of Parting and Grooving at Sandvik Coromant, emphasized the importance of customer feedback in this upgrade, stating, “We work closely with our customers, sharing our knowledge while being attentive to their needs and viewpoints. The result has been overwhelmingly positive.”

Stability is a fundamental requirement for parting and grooving operations. The primary challenge is to keep the insert in place, minimizing insert movement. The established rail interface, previously available on medium and large inserts, ensures precise insert positioning and resistance to lateral forces. This feature will now be extended to smaller insert sizes, ensuring stability in all operations.

CoroCut® 2 parting blades now include internal coolant and an improved clamping finger design, resulting in higher clamping force and improved side stability, particularly advantageous when creating chamfers before parting off. Tool holders equipped with precision coolant feature an updated screw clamp solution, combined with a rigid rail insert seat design, which minimizes insert movement without compromising clamping force.

Additional enhancements include new and updated grades and geometries, such as the first choice grade GC1225 and a wiper design for all parting geometries. These improvements contribute to better edge line quality on all inserts. Fredrik Selin, Product Application Specialist at Sandvik Coromant, highlighted the uniqueness of the solution, stating, “What makes this solution unique is the in-house developed and patented production technology. With better blank quality from our new production technology, we achieve less spreading of the edge line. This means we can have a lower tolerance and perform smaller edge rounding than before, with a longer, more predictable insert tool life as a consequence.”

CoroCut® 2 is versatile and suitable for all types of parting and grooving applications with cutting depths suitable for double-edged inserts. For larger depths of cut, the related CoroCut® QD and CoroCut® QF concepts are recommended, while CoroCut® QI is the first choice for internal grooving and face grooving on small diameters.
