Sandvik has announced the acquisition of an 80% stake in K&Y Diamond, a specialist in monocrystalline diamond tools used in ultra-precision manufacturing applications. The acquisition supports Sandvik’s strategy to expand its presence in the high-growth segment of micro-precision tooling.
Founded in 1976 and headquartered in Montreal, K&Y Diamond has built a strong reputation in the optics industry, producing tools used in the manufacturing of spectacle lenses, contact lenses, optical components, and advanced optronic systems. Its solutions are also widely applied in industries requiring superior surface finishing, including aerospace and medical technology.
Following the acquisition, K&Y Diamond will operate within Sandvik Coromant, a division of Sandvik’s Machining business area. The integration is expected to enhance Sandvik’s capabilities in delivering high-precision solutions and broaden its offering to customers operating in demanding, technology-driven sectors.
K&Y Diamond reported revenues of approximately SEK 120 million in 2025 and has maintained strong profitability. The transaction is expected to have a positive, though modest, impact on Sandvik’s overall earnings and margin performance. Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
“The addition of K&Y Diamond enhances our technological capabilities and engineering expertise, aligning seamlessly with our strategy to expand our presence in the high-growth micro-precision tooling segment,” said Stefan Widing, President and CEO of Sandvik.
With a workforce of 45 employees, K&Y Diamond will continue to operate from its Montreal base, leveraging its specialized knowledge while benefiting from Sandvik’s global reach and resources. The collaboration is expected to accelerate product development and expand market access for advanced diamond tooling solutions.
