Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd (SAMIL) reported a fivefold increase in its aerospace business over the past year, marking a significant step in its diversification strategy. The company is now a Tier-1 supplier to Airbus and is further expanding into the semiconductor equipment sector.

Speaking during the company’s Q4 FY25 earnings call, Deputy CEO Vaman Sehgal highlighted the rapid growth of the aerospace division, which has become a key area of focus for the group. “The aerospace business, which we started in this five-year journey, has already grown 5x in a year,” Sehgal said, confirming the company’s Tier-1 status with Airbus.

SAMIL has developed capabilities in metal fabrication, machining, composites, and surface treatments, supporting its role in the aerospace supply chain. The company now supplies parts for several major aircraft programs, including Airbus A320, A330, A350 and Boeing 737, 767, 777, and 787, along with components for the full range of LEAP engines. Aerospace revenues reached ₹1,749 crore in FY25, up from ₹339 crore the previous year. The division holds a five-year order book worth around $1.2 billion (approximately ₹10,870 crore).

As part of its expansion, SAMIL is setting up a greenfield facility to manufacture parts for semiconductor fabrication equipment. The project is seen as a natural extension of its aerospace and industrial capabilities and is aimed at serving growing demand in semiconductor and electronics manufacturing.

This diversification aligns with the company’s broader shift into non-automotive sectors such as consumer electronics, printed circuit boards, and defense manufacturing. New facilities under development in Bengaluru and Europe will support these initiatives. SAMIL ended FY25 with total revenue of ₹1.13 lakh crore and has earmarked ₹6,000 crore for capital expenditure in FY26, with half of that targeted at growth investments—70% of which will be directed towards non-automotive ventures.

With operations spanning over 400 facilities across 44 countries and a strong base of global automotive and non-automotive clients, SAMIL remains one of the world’s leading specialized component suppliers. Established in 1986 and listed in 1993, the company has grown into India’s largest auto ancillary and ranks among the top 15 global automotive suppliers. It was recently recognized among TIME’s Best Companies of 2024.
