SAIL and IIT (ISM) Dhanbad Forge Partnership to Advance Mining Technology

Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has formed a strategic alliance with the Technology Innovation in Exploration and Mining (TEXMiN) Foundation of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad to enhance technological advancements in the mining and metallurgy sectors. This collaboration, announced by SAIL’s IISCO Steel Plant (ISP) in Burnpur, aims to drive innovation in mining processes and steel production.

The partnership focuses on developing specialized training programs, providing hands-on case studies, and creating advanced training modules designed to improve workforce skills in steelmaking and other related fields. The initiative will also emphasize the importance of intellectual development in emerging and advanced technologies within the industry.

Brijendra Pratap Singh, Director In-Charge of Burnpur and Durgapur Steel Plants, highlighted the significance of this collaboration, stating that it combines technology, academic expertise, and industry knowledge to help SAIL meet its growth objectives. Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and Director of TEXMiN, also stressed that such collaborations are crucial for preparing the workforce to adapt to the demands of the digital economy, which is vital for the future of Indian mining and metallurgy.

The partnership will play a pivotal role in enhancing the skills of workers, supporting digital transformation, and promoting sustainable practices in the mining and steel sectors, contributing to smarter and safer operations. Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) is one of India’s largest steel producers and a public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Steel. Established in 1973, SAIL operates a vast network of integrated steel plants and special steel units across the country, with a production capacity exceeding 20 million tons per annum.
