SABIC, a prominent global player in the chemical industry, has recently established a strategic partnership with the Pashupati Group to advance recycling efforts in India. The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signifies a joint commitment to improving local recycling capabilities and expanding SABIC’s global network of recycling partners.

The collaboration will involve the exchange of knowledge and best practices across various stages of plastic material recycling. This partnership aims to enhance processing methods by utilizing both virgin and recycled polyolefins to develop a range of compounded and non-compounded end products.

Pashupati Group’s expertise in mechanical and chemical plastic processing will complement SABIC’s strengths in marketing and selling recycled products. Together, the two entities seek to drive innovation in recycling and contribute to a more sustainable future. The agreement encompasses a pioneering recycling initiative designed to transform discarded plastic into pyrolysis oil.

SABIC intends to use this oil to manufacture certified circular polymers, matching the performance qualities of new plastics. These efforts play a crucial role in advancing India’s plastics industry towards circular practices, promoting ongoing partnerships to meet the rising need for recycled polymers.

This strategic alliance builds on SABIC’s previous successful partnership in 2021 with HHI, a Malaysian company focused on plastic recycling, which resulted in the production of polymers utilized in the creation of products such as the Microsoft Ocean Plastic Mouse. SABIC, the Saudi Basic Industries Corporation, is a global leader in diversified chemicals headquartered in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Established in 1976, SABIC has grown to become one of the world’s largest petrochemicals manufacturers, producing a wide range of products, including chemicals, plastics, agri-nutrients, and metals. With operations in over 50 countries and a workforce of around 33,000 employees, SABIC serves customers in key markets such as Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas. The company’s product portfolio includes ethylene, polyethylene, polypropylene, ethylene glycol, methanol, and fertilizers, among others.

SABIC is committed to sustainable practices and innovation, focusing on developing solutions that address global challenges such as climate change, resource efficiency, and the circular economy. The company’s research and development centers work on developing new materials and technologies to meet the evolving needs of its customers and the industry.
