Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has successfully completed the construction of the last two piers of the Orange Line at Metropolitan, Kolkata, a full month ahead of the scheduled traffic block end date of September 13, as reported by the Times of India.
This early completion marks significant progress in the Orange Line’s Metropolitan section, clearing the way for the next phase of construction—a viaduct atop the newly completed piers and filling a 125-meter gap at the site on the EM Bypass.
RVNL is now on track to complete the 8-kilometer extension from Ruby to Sector V by December. The Kolkata Police’s traffic department had previously granted a 90-day traffic block for the Orange Line project in June, after RVNL had been seeking access to the site for six years to bridge the 125-meter gap.
With the pier construction now finished, RVNL is set to restore normal traffic movement at the site. A railway official noted that the work was expedited due to the critical nature of the EM Bypass stretch. The staging around the portal beams is expected to be removed by Wednesday, August 14, allowing for the free flow of traffic.
Despite this progress, RVNL’s share price saw a nearly 2% dip earlier today, as several railway stocks faced pressure. Analysts at IDBI Capital maintained a “hold” rating on the stock with a price target of ₹549, predicting a potential 3%-4% decline from current levels.
Meanwhile, Antique Broking resumed coverage with a “sell” rating, setting a price target of ₹283, which suggests a 50% downside from the stock’s present valuation. Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) is an Indian public sector enterprise focused on the development and enhancement of railway infrastructure.
Established in 2003 under the Ministry of Railways, RVNL plays a crucial role in executing and implementing various railway projects, including the construction of new lines, doubling of tracks, and modernization of existing facilities.
The company’s key objectives are to improve the efficiency and capacity of the Indian railway network, support the expansion of rail services, and contribute to the overall growth of the sector. RVNL’s projects often involve collaboration with other government bodies and private partners to achieve its strategic goals and drive significant improvements in rail transportation across the country.
