RSA Global, the Dubai-headquartered integrated logistics company, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Maharashtra to establish India’s largest automated empty container yard at Uran in Raigad district, within the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) ecosystem. The project entails a proposed investment of ₹2,580 crore and is expected to generate around 750 direct and indirect employment opportunities.

The agreement, executed through RSA Logistics and Transportation Pvt Ltd, was signed in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The project is aimed at strengthening the state’s logistics infrastructure while improving cargo movement efficiency at India’s busiest container port.

Spread across 62 acres, the fully paved and technology-driven facility will consolidate empty container storage, maintenance, repair and repositioning within a single integrated hub. Designed to streamline container handling operations, the project is expected to reduce congestion at port terminals, improve container turnaround times and enhance supply chain efficiency for shipping lines, transporters and exporters.

The automated yard will feature advanced storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), electric overhead travelling cranes, optical character recognition-enabled entry gates and a digital Yard Management System that will provide real-time visibility of container movement. The facility will have the capacity to handle more than 50,000 TEUs every month and will cater to a wide range of container types, including dry containers, reefer containers, ISO tanks, collapsible containers and out-of-gauge cargo.

In addition to storage, the integrated logistics hub will offer maintenance and repair services, pre-trip inspections, SOLAS-compliant weighment, container surveys, fabrication support and seamless transfers to container freight stations. Dedicated parking areas, weighbridges and improved driver amenities are also expected to enhance operational efficiency while reducing vehicle turnaround times.

The project has been designed with sustainability at its core. It will operate round the clock using solar power integration, dedicated utility infrastructure, sewage and effluent treatment plants for water recycling, and extensive green landscaping with more than 2,500 trees. These measures are expected to lower emissions, reduce vehicle idling and support environmentally responsible logistics operations.

Ajay I. Shah, Chairman and Co-Founder of RSA Global, said the investment addresses one of the most critical bottlenecks in India’s port logistics ecosystem by introducing world-class automation, transparency and infrastructure for empty container management. Abhishek Shah, Group CEO and Co-Founder, added that the facility would deliver faster turnaround times, lower logistics costs and greater operational efficiency across the supply chain.

Welcoming the investment, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the project would strengthen the state’s position as a leading logistics and trade hub while enhancing export competitiveness, attracting global infrastructure investment and creating skilled employment opportunities. The project further reinforces RSA Global’s long-term commitment to India’s logistics sector and supports the country’s efforts to build a modern, technology-enabled and sustainable supply chain ecosystem.
