Royal Enfield, a leading name in the mid-size motorcycle market, has launched its first wholly owned and operated CKD (completely knocked down) assembly facility outside India, located in SamutPrakan, Bangkok. This milestone underscores the brand’s dedication to expanding its presence in the Thai market and the broader Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.
B Govindarajan, CEO of Royal Enfield, highlighted the company’s mission to grow the middleweight motorcycle segment worldwide. “We’ve witnessed strong demand from international riders seeking accessible motorcycles that reflect their personality. Establishing the Thailand facility aligns with our strategic goal to expand in high-potential markets,” he said.
This 57,000 sq. ft. modern facility has an annual capacity of over 30,000 units. It joins Royal Enfield’s global CKD network, which includes plants in Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, Bangladesh, and Nepal. The Thai unit is designed to cater to local demand initially, with plans to expand into neighboring APAC markets.
Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Royal Enfield’s Chief Commercial Officer, emphasized the importance of the Asia-Pacific region for mid-size motorcycles. “Markets like APAC offer immense potential, and our presence in Thailand allows us to stay closer to customers while driving growth,” he said.
Since its entry into Thailand, Royal Enfield has seen over 150% growth. AnujDua, Business Head for APAC, described Thailand as a pivotal market. “The country’s diverse topography, rich culture, and enthusiastic community provide the perfect environment for our motorcycles. Our progress here, spanning networks, customers, and portfolio expansion, has been remarkable,” Dua stated.
The new facility will also host Royal Enfield’s first-ever Power Train experiential training center in the APAC region. This initiative aims to enhance dealer and employee expertise, ensuring improved customer experiences and stronger community engagement.
Initially focusing on the Thai market, the facility will gradually support neighboring APAC regions. It is poised to streamline motorcycle delivery and reinforce Royal Enfield’s leadership in the mid-size motorcycle segment.
