Royal Enfield, the global leader in the mid-size motorcycle segment, has launched the Himalayan 440 at the inaugural Himalayan Basecamp in Ladakh, bringing back the character and simplicity of the original Himalayan in response to strong community demand. Marking a decade since the Himalayan established a new benchmark for accessible adventure motorcycling in India, the Himalayan 440 combines the motorcycle’s iconic design and purpose-built character with a more powerful engine, six-speed transmission and mechanical refinements aimed at enhancing durability, versatility and touring comfort.

Over the past decade, the Himalayan brand, from the original Himalayan to the Himalayan 450 launched in 2023, has sold more than 320,000 motorcycles globally. B. Govindarajan, Managing Director, Eicher Motors Ltd. and Chief Executive Officer, Royal Enfield, said, “Over the past decade, the Himalayan’s journey has been deeply gratifying and emotional for us – one shaped by both the mountains and a global rider community that transformed a simple adventure motorcycle into an international phenomenon.” He added that the Himalayan 440 has been developed in response to rider feedback, retaining the essence of a simple, accessible and uncomplicated adventure tourer.

The Himalayan 440 is powered by an upgraded 443cc single-cylinder, long-stroke engine producing 25.4 bhp at 6,250 rpm and 34 Nm at 4,000 rpm. A new six-speed gearbox features revised ratios for easier low-speed riding and more relaxed highway cruising. The motorcycle retains its half-duplex split-cradle frame, 41mm telescopic front forks with 200mm travel and a linkage-type rear monoshock offering 180mm wheel travel.

A 21-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke-wheel setup, 220mm ground clearance and a low centre of gravity are designed to provide confidence across varied terrain. The motorcycle features an upright riding position, an 800mm seat height and a 15-litre fuel tank, supporting both everyday riding and extended touring.

Braking is handled by a 300mm front disc with a two-piston floating caliper and larger pistons, paired with a 240mm rear disc and switchable dual-channel ABS. A new LED headlamp, digital-analogue instrument cluster, Tripper navigation, USB Type-C charging and enhanced luggage capability add further practicality.

The Himalayan 440 will be available in Sela Black, Mustang Brown and Nelong White at ₹2,29,000 ex-showroom. Initial motorcycles will carry an exclusive 10-year anniversary badge on the fuel tank. Bookings open from September 4 through authorised Royal Enfield dealerships in India and royalenfield.com.

Royal Enfield is also offering accessories including hard panniers, top boxes, touring seats, adventure handguards and engine protection. The motorcycle is supported by Royal Enfield’s comprehensive 7-year extended warranty and Roadside Assistance programme. The launch at Himalayan Basecamp – Ladakh Edition brings together riders, overlanders, climbers, mountaineers and explorers, celebrating the spirit of adventure that has defined the Himalayan since its introduction.

A division of Eicher Motors Limited, Royal Enfield has more than 2,100 retail outlets across India and nearly 1,200 stores in more than 80 countries. Its production facilities are located near Chennai, while the company also operates technical centres in the UK and India.
