Rohde & Schwarz has become the first company to receive Global Certification Forum (GCF) approval for 5G FR2 radio resource management (RRM) standalone mode conformance test cases. The approval follows the validation of the R&S TS8980FTA-M1 test system, which meets the GCF’s test platform approval criteria (TPAC).
This includes RRM FR2 test cases for standalone (SA) mode in mmWave frequency bands, supporting both single and dual angles of arrival (1x AoA and 2x AoA). The R&S TS8980FTA-M1 integrates the R&S ATS1800M anechoic chamber, enabling industry-leading multi-angle conformance testing for mobile devices.
With this certification, Rohde & Schwarz enables device manufacturers to ensure the global interoperability of their 5G NR SA devices operating in FR2. As wireless 5G routers and customer premises equipment (CPE) become essential for fixed wireless access (FWA), verifying compliance with critical RRM test cases is crucial. These tests guarantee a stable user experience, even in challenging network conditions such as signal obstructions or at the edge of a cell.
Following the Conformance Agreement Group (CAG) #81 meeting in Bangkok from January 21 to 23, 2025, GCF confirmed that Rohde & Schwarz is currently the only provider meeting all mandatory certification requirements for 5G FR2 RRM. Their test platform, built on the CMX500 5G network emulator, supports an extensive range of RF and RRM test cases for both non-standalone (NSA) and SA configurations.
Thomas Eyring, Senior Director of Device Certification at Rohde & Schwarz, emphasized the company’s leadership in 5G testing, stating, “We are proud to advance conformance testing and ensure the quality and reliability of 5G devices. We are also actively working on test cases for the upcoming FR3 frequency range, which will be critical for future 6G networks.”
