RITES and NEEPCO Collaborates for North-East Hydropower Stations

RITES Ltd, a central public sector enterprise working under the Ministry of Railways, has recently undergone a partnership with NEEPCO, also known as the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited, a central public sector undertaking, to collaborate on enhancing logistical infrastructure at multiple hydropower stations across the North East India through consultancy services.

RITES Limited is an engineering consultancy company in India, established in 1974. Specializing in transport infrastructure, it offers a wide array of services encompassing railways, highways, bridges, ports, and urban planning. RITES provides consultancy, project management, export-import services, and quality assurance for various infrastructure projects worldwide. With its headquarters in Gurugram, India, RITES has expanded its global presence, undertaking projects in over 55 countries.

North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) is a government-owned corporation founded in 1976. It focuses on developing hydropower and thermal power generation in the northeastern region of India. NEEPCO operates and maintains power stations, predominantly hydroelectric, across the North Eastern states, contributing significantly to the region’s power supply. Headquartered in Shillong, Meghalaya, NEEPCO has been instrumental in catering to the energy needs of the Northeastern states and beyond. Both organizations, operating in different domains, play pivotal roles in India’s developmental landscape, showcasing excellence and commitment in their respective fields.

The Arunachal Pradesh government has assigned the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd (NEEPCO) the task of developing five hydropower projects in the Siang Basin to strengthen the region’s power infrastructure, as per an official statement. Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), RITES will act as a Project Management Consultant to support NEEPCO in various aspects related to rail infrastructure facilities, including signalling and telecommunications, overhead equipment, and conveyor systems.
