Rhenus Launches Central Distribution Centre for IKEA in India

Rhenus

Global logistics leader Rhenus has opened a cutting-edge warehouse to support the storage and fulfillment of over 7,000 IKEA products. This 180,000 sqft facility, located in Farrukh-Nagar, Gurugram, is the first fully outsourced Central Distribution Centre (CDC) for IKEA in India. It features advanced technology and sustainable solutions, aiming to streamline delivery to the Delhi NCR region and expand into other northern markets in the future.

With a storage capacity of 12,000 m³, the new CDC is integral to IKEA’s expansion strategy in India, enabling the company to fulfill most orders within 24 hours. The facility is fully integrated with Rhenus’ Warehouse Management System (WMS), which optimizes logistics through Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and simplifies last-mile delivery.

The facility is one of the largest and most modern of its kind in India. Equipped with top-tier infrastructure, innovative storage, and material handling systems, the CDC is designed to enhance operational efficiency and meet growing demand in northern India. Sustainable features include eco-friendly construction, LED lighting with motion sensors, paperless operations, and rainwater harvesting. Renewable energy initiatives, such as electric vehicle (EV) deliveries and rail transport, further reduce its environmental footprint.

Located approximately 35 km from the airport, the CDC is strategically positioned with excellent connections to major rail, road, and air transport networks. It will create jobs for nearly 150 employees, offering health services, emergency infrastructure, a cafeteria, and a training room. The facility will also explore opportunities to hire specially abled individuals to foster inclusivity.

“We’re excited to begin our journey in North India,” said Saiba Suri, Country Customer Fulfillment Manager at IKEA India. “The new CDC will enable us to reach more people with our home furnishings, driven by speed, sustainability, and accessibility. Our commitment to 100% EV deliveries sets a new standard in the industry, and we look forward to strengthening our partnership with Rhenus.”

Ronny Sassen, CEO of Rhenus Contract Logistics, commented, “This marks a pivotal moment in our long-standing collaboration with IKEA. The opening of IKEA’s first fully outsourced CDC outside Europe is a testament to our shared commitment to innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence.”

Vivek Arya, CEO of Rhenus Logistics India, added, “This new warehouse is a major milestone for our logistics solutions in India and signals continued growth in our partnership with IKEA. We’re excited to support their expansion in India and beyond, guided by our shared vision of excellence.”

Rhenus and IKEA’s partnership dates back to 1988, with a network of over 50 European sites and over 1.8 million deliveries by 2018. As the Indian market grows, the collaboration is set to expand further, meeting the increasing demand for IKEA products in the region.
