Airbus Helicopters has secured a contract with the Republic of Ireland’s Department of Defence to supply four H145M helicopters, marking the introduction of this advanced model into the Irish military’s fleet. The H145M will strengthen the Irish Air Corps’ capabilities, supporting a wide range of defence and security operations.
Lieutenant General Seán Clancy, Chief of Staff of the Irish Defence Forces, emphasized that the acquisition of the H145M is a crucial step in the modernization of the nation’s military. These versatile, multi-role helicopters, which have proven their effectiveness in other armed forces, will not only enhance the Air Corps’ rotary-wing capabilities but also support the Army, Naval Service, and Special Operations Forces.
Lenny Brown, Managing Director of Airbus Helicopters in the UK, expressed pride in being chosen to contribute to the Irish Air Corps’ fleet transformation. The H145M offers superior performance compared to the helicopters currently in service, with the potential for future weaponization, if needed.
The H145M, a military version of the highly successful H145 helicopter, features the HForce weapon management system, enabling it to carry a variety of armaments, including machine guns, rockets, and missiles. Equipped with Helionix digital avionics and a 4-axis autopilot, the H145M reduces pilot workload, allowing crews to focus on their mission. Its five-bladed bearingless main rotor provides enhanced performance and contributes to its industry-leading low acoustic signature.
