ReNew, a top player in India’s renewable energy sector and listed on Nasdaq (RNW), officially launched its massive 1.3 gigawatt peak (GWp) solar power plant in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The inauguration ceremony was led by Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy and Consumer Affairs, Shri Pralhad Joshi, alongside Rajasthan Chief Minister Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma. This launch marks a major step in scaling up clean energy in the country.

A key feature of the project is its focus on domestic manufacturing. All solar panels used were produced by ReNew, with 90% of them made in Rajasthan at the company’s facility in Jaipur. This is the first project of its size in India to rely fully on domestically produced modules. Power from the plant will be provided at a competitive rate of ₹2.18 per unit, supporting the national goal of energy self-reliance under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and aiding Rajasthan’s push toward sustainable power.

Spread over 3,500 acres, the solar farm covers villages like Rampuriya, Bhinajpura, Hastinapur, and Masuriya in the Jaisalmer district. It’s expected to generate around 2,490 million units of electricity each year—enough to meet the annual energy needs of nearly 500,000 homes. The project is also estimated to cut carbon emissions by approximately 2.3 million tons annually. Local communities will benefit through long-term land lease agreements, ensuring steady income for the next 25 years from otherwise unused land.

Speaking at the event, Minister Pralhad Joshi said, “This project is a proud moment not just for Rajasthan but for the entire country. With 90% of the solar modules built right here in the state, it’s a strong step toward making India more self-reliant in clean energy. Rajasthan is showing what’s possible when innovation meets local development.”

ReNew’s Chairman and CEO, Sumant Sinha, added, “We are proud to deepen our roots in Rajasthan, a state that has played a crucial role in our growth. Nearly 5 GW of our total operating capacity is based here, with investments of over ₹21,000 crore. Our 4 GW solar module plant in Jaipur further reinforces our long-term commitment to the region and to building a more self-sufficient energy future for India.”

ReNew is a leading renewable energy company and one of the world’s largest in terms of total capacity. With a portfolio of approximately 17.4 GW as of December 31, 2024, the company operates across clean power generation, digital energy solutions, storage systems, and carbon markets.
