ReNew Energy Global has announced a ₹220 billion ($2.57 billion) investment to develop a hybrid renewable energy project in Andhra Pradesh, aimed at meeting India’s growing demand for clean energy. The project will generate a total of 2.8 gigawatts (GW), comprising 1.8 GW of solar power and 1 GW of wind energy, with the capacity to supply electricity for up to four hours during peak demand.
Officials have officially launched the project, which will be executed in stages, starting with 587 MWp of solar energy, 250 MW of wind capacity, and 415 MWh of storage. Power purchase agreements (PPAs) for this initial phase are already in place.
As of February 14, 2025, ReNew Energy’s total clean energy portfolio reached 17.4 GW on a gross basis. In Andhra Pradesh, the company operates 717 MW of wind farms and 60 MW of solar plants across 10 locations.
“ Andhra Pradesh offers a strong combination of investor-friendly policies, excellent transmission infrastructure, and abundant solar and wind resources. We are optimistic about expanding large-scale renewable energy capacity in the state and contributing to the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel electricity capacity by 2030,” said Sumant Sinha, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of ReNew.
As India’s largest renewable energy provider after Adani Green, ReNew Energy operates across ten states, with a global portfolio totaling 17.4 GW as of mid-February 2024. The announcement comes as India works to meet its clean energy goals after falling short in 2022. Despite recent investments in the sector, India still needs to significantly ramp up capacity over the next five years to meet its target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel power by 2030, according to a Global Energy Monitor report.
