ReNew and Microsoft Ink 437.6 MW Clean Energy Agreement

ReNew has signed a significant agreement with Microsoft to supply 437.6 megawatts (MW) of clean energy. Announced on Tuesday, this deal is expected to generate over one million units of green energy annually, supporting Microsoft’s goal to become carbon negative by 2030.

It revealed that around $15 million in revenue from this contract will be allocated to a community fund aimed at supporting environmental initiatives. The ReNew Foundation, it’s philanthropic arm, will oversee these efforts, focusing on sustainable community development, particularly for women and youth, aligning with Microsoft’s Environmental Justice priorities.

“This agreement with ReNew advances our sustainability goals while also making a positive impact on local communities through projects like rural electrification and initiatives to enhance women’s livelihoods,” said Puneet Chandok, President of Microsoft India & South Asia.

Sumant Sinha, Founder-Chairman and CEO of ReNew, highlighted the broader impact of the partnership, stating, “This agreement strengthens our commitment to the communities we operate in and helps address the socio-economic challenges linked to climate change.”
